Like a lot of you, I’ve been coming to terms with having to massively lower my expectations for this year since the damning news that we’re unlikely to get on holiday in the summer. Never mind, I thought. Cornwalls been looking great on Springwatch and the One Show and Hairy Bikers this year (…evidently I’ve also generally lowered my expectations for casual entertainment) - maybe a nice trip to the English Riviera is just the ticket. A quick google led me to the conclusion that the BBC’s constant and incessant plugging of English tourism has been far too successful and there’s fuck all out there apart from a few questionable camping spots and one or two shitty cottages going for the same price as a 5 start all-inclusive to the Caribbean.

Oh well, I thought. At least I’ll be able to get down the pub with some mates. Perhaps a bottomless brunch in the sun will be a laugh. But ohhh no. The same fuckers who bought all the toilet roll in the last lockdown have booked every table going from now until God knows when. So, in conclusion it looks like I’ll be spending the summer down the local park with some tinnies and a multipack of salt and vinegar crisps.

I’m not bitter at all though. Because while I watch my plans for summer slowly flush themselves down the toilet, I’m bolstered by the fact that there’s one thing that will never let me down. Live music. As if hearing my silent pleas for a good time, the online world of arts has responded with a veritable feast for the eyes and ears. Bonus - I don’t have to worry about fitting into my summer 2020 clothes for any of it. Every cloud!
